Top Three Design tips for your Website

Today, I’d like to share with you my three top design tips I figured out while designing a website for a friend. Websites can be a fantastic way to express your creativity. Blossoming with adventures of an alternative reality.

TIP 1 – Don’t use too many different fonts

Professional designers tend to only use one or two designs in anything
they do. The reason is that if you use too many it can be very
difficult on the eye.

Usually one font for the main headline on your header (e.g. your
company name) and another for the strap-line or slogan, is more than
enough. Often you will find just a single font in two different sizes
will look great.

TIP 2 – Don’t be too flashy

Great designers are often masters of making something simple look great.

A wonderful example of this is the Google logo. Take a look and you’ll
see it is just six letters – two in blue, two in red, one green and
one yellow.

Often a good header will consist of nothing more than an appropriate
image, a nice background and the name of your web site.

TIP 3 – Colors are important

Be careful when choosing your color scheme. Think very carefully about
who will be visiting your site and try to pick something that will be
appropriate.

For example, at the most basic level, if you have a site aimed at
young men you definitely wouldn’t want to go with pink as being the
predominant color, and if you were running a funeral parlor you
probably wouldn’t want to go with primary colors.

These are two very basic examples, but the same is true, to a greater
or less degree, with all sites.

So, there’s my three top tips for today:

Don’t use too many fonts
Don’t be too flashy
Colors are important

So set your mind free and start exploring web design, if you haven’t already. It’s a great outlet to set your mind free, you’ll be surprised how much hidden talent you really have.
